The family and I got to Troy early so we would get a good parking spot. I signed up for the 5K and the girls signed up for the 1-mile kids run. The Troy Turkey Trot continues to grow in size. This year over 7000 runners! That explains why I was stuck in traffic for almost half of the race. I love this race, such a festive atmosphere, and great way to start Thanksgiving.
I wore the new Uncle Sam hat before the race. You would think that in the city that is dubbed the "home of Uncle Sam" there would be more Uncle Sam hats, but I only saw one other.
Not as cold this year as years past. Still very crowded! Managed to get to a porta-john just before the start. I tried to get as close to the start line as I could but it was swamped with people.
After the 5K, I found Madeline and Emma and we walked through the finish chute to get water, bananas, and an orange, then headed back to the Start line to watch the mascot race (the Horse won).
The kids run was a lot of fun. This year both girls kept up. Madeline took off with a dash, I had to tell her to save her energy for the end. Maybe we can all run the 5K next year. Kathy heard the course director yelling at the guy manning the finish line. Apparently, they had not reset the clock, so they have no clue who won the 1-miler race. Oh well.
